| FISHING
TIPS OF THE MONTH BY Des Charles |
|
|
|
A
hat, sunglasses and long sleeve sun-rated shirt is essential when
fishing, whether you are fishing in salt water or freshwater, the
sun has a habit of burning you before you realize the damage it has
done.
Before you start
fishing stop and think where you would live if you were a fish,
remember fish live for two reasons, one is to reproduce and the
other is to eat.
So think like a fish and take time to work out where the best place
would be to catch an easy feed.
For instance if you were a saltwater fish in an estuary you might
lie under a mangrove ready to ambush your prey or in a gutter somewhere
waiting for the tide to wash yabbies or worms your way when the
tide came in or went out.
OR maybe you want to catch a freshwater fish, so you would fish
early or late in the afternoon when fish generally feed better,
look for structures like sunken logs or dead trees in the lake,
this type of habitat is cover for freshwater fish.

| FLY
FISHING TIP OF THE MONTH |
|
|
|
When
looking to surface fish for freshwater natives using poppers, lean
towards the windward shoreline in the evenings.
Usually all the spent flies that have hatched during the day will
end up on this shoreline and guess what so will the fish you are after.
